Laser Cutting Near New York City: Getting Metal Parts Cut in North Jersey

Search for laser cutting in New York City and most of what comes up is set up for acrylic, wood and signage. Full sheets of steel, stainless and aluminum are a different job, and most of that cutting happens just outside the city. Here is what to expect from a North Jersey laser shop, how fast parts reach the five boroughs, and what to send for a quote.

What is actually in the city

Laser cutting inside the five boroughs mostly means CO2 machines cutting acrylic, wood, paper and thin sheet for signs, displays and prototypes. That work is fast and useful, and it is not what a fiber laser does.

A 6 kW fiber laser with a 60 by 120 inch bed cuts full sheets of steel up to 1 inch, aluminum up to 5/8 inch and stainless up to 1/2 inch. It needs floor space, power and a dock for material in and finished parts out. That is why most metal laser cutting for New York City happens in New Jersey.

How close is close enough

Our shop in Vernon, NJ is a little over an hour from the George Washington Bridge. Small orders ship UPS and usually arrive in the city the next business day. Larger orders ride our own truck, which covers about 80 miles around the shop and reaches all five boroughs, Westchester and Rockland.

In practice the distance shows up only in delivery. Quoting, file review and first article checks happen by email the same way they would with a shop across the street.

What we cut

Steel, stainless, aluminum and brass. Stocked material runs 22 gauge to 1/2 inch in steel and stainless and up to 1/2 inch in aluminum, so most jobs cut the same week without waiting on a mill order. Parts are nested across the full sheet, which matters most on production runs where scrap is real money.

Tube and structural work runs on a separate 3 kW fiber tube laser that takes full 24 foot sticks and cuts copes, holes and weld prep in one pass. When a part needs bends, hardware or welding after cutting, that happens on the same floor.

What to send for a quote

A DXF, DWG or STEP file, the material and thickness, the quantity, and the date you need it. If you have a PDF drawing as well, send both. Quotes come back in 24 to 48 hours.

There is no minimum. One prototype and a nested run of a thousand cut on the same machine.

Delivery into the city

Tell us the delivery address and the building's rules when you request the quote: delivery hours, loading dock bookings, freight elevator sizes. Parts are packed for the route, and a large assembly can be built in sections that fit the elevator and join cleanly on site.

Pickup at the shop in Vernon is also an option.
